I loved it for all the reasons that others seem critical of it. It is Moody. It is stylish. It's quirky. It has the slow creepiness of a bad dream where something is wrong and dangerous but you're not sure what is will be. And the source of so much of this is a woman who sought Independence and Empowerment - at any price- and sees a young woman come along who has that same "action in her bones" if she's willing to make the ultimate sacrifice for it.
There's no mention of God or Satan, none of the usual fake Gregorian chants or other tired props. No one sells their souls except in the same way you see in modern politics A woman saw a chance for Empowerment and she took it. Some people may find that frightening in itself.
