A movie focused on trying to bring out nostalgia in Star Wars, The Rise of Skywalker unfortunately falls short when it comes to competent writing. The villain is revealed to be alive instead of dead far to early in the opening crawl, robbing his impact on the film altogether. scenes are often moved though quite quickly so that people can't look deeply into them and notice the writing issues. Multiple super-powered weapons in theory raises the stakes, but it instead merely raises the question on why the weapons couldn't have been set up this way in the first place. Powers are switched between characters with no explanations, and character actions seem more done to advance the plot instead of give them agency. This movie doesn't make up for The Last Jedi. It only strengthens both movies flaws.
