Tessily Hope

This movie was fantastic. I was prepared for it to be in the same awkward, very child-audience-geared category as the Chipmunk and Peter Rabbit movies, but I was pleasantly surprised by a movie that felt closer to Detective Pikachu. It did NOT disappoint a fan of Sonic who has been around long enough to play Green Hill Zone on the Sega. It’s light, funny, and action-packed, staying true to our chili-dog loving, sarcastic hero in the best way. And there were some truly unique and fun ideas incorporated into it. Sonic’s rings as teleportation devices? Pretty sick. The way Eggman gets his name? Cheesy and perfect. And we can all agree that Jim Carey somehow played Dr. Robotnik/Eggman in spectacular fashion. I don’t know who could have pulled off sociopathic robot-lover in more dramatic fashion. Overall, just a very feel-good, fun movie that didn’t stray from the themes that we’ve always loved. Plus, they fixed a Sonic’s face for the fans, and they incorporated MEMES into the movie. Worth it, truly. And if the surprise at the end is indicative of a sequel, then I am on board.
