Anyone who served in the US Navy in the 40's, 50's and 60's (and prior) may find this facinating. No cell phones, everyone smoking cigaretes, no GPS navigation, filipino stewards in officers country, no ball caps, captain's gig, I'm not sure, but my guess is, less than one percent of the crew on a ship in today's modern navy would recognize a sextant if one was lying on a table in front of them. No fault of theirs, it was just another era. Cagney played another memorable US Navy role in the epic "Mr. Roberts," as the ineffective, tyranical, neurotic captain of a cargo ship in the wanning hours of WW2. He was great in both.
