I am astonished at the amount of parents complaining about the discussion of female puberty and periods in this movie. To me, that was the LEAST of the issues present. In fact, I thought that that was one of the strongest points of the movie, lol. (For future reference, utilizing a little common sense when showing your kids movies is probably a good idea. Cute red fluffy panda does not exactly equal a movie your kid will love. Do some research if you care that damn much about exposing your kids to the natural tides of female puberty, weirdos.)
Turning Red lacked…heart. It is undeniable that every single Pixar movie has an immense about of love put into it, but Turning Red felt cheap for some reason. I can’t exactly put my finger on it, but it did not feel like a Pixar movie. The characters were inconsistent and the character growth was absolutely forced instead of being natural. In fact, I found the characters to be quite forgettable and boring, even the protagonist. I couldn’t really tell you any of their names. The script was super weak and wasn’t exactly engaging for someone over, like, 15 years of age. The animation was stunning, of course.
Overall, sort of a meh movie, which is strange for Pixar: a company that tends to produce incredible movies.
