The ending was never revealed and the actors never read aloud Kay’s predicted ending for the audience. One presumes the ending was always about the death of Harold Crick, as the narration implies, but ‘little did one know’, pun intended, that Harold’s conflict after he red the book was about what he knew he must do to prevent a catastrophic encounter in spite of it being what he’s been running away from all along.
