What this author envisions as an "underground railroad" makes it seem pleasant and mystical. I believe he downplays the heroism, danger and strength it took for the blacks to free themselves from the atrocities of slavery.
I do like that he opens up about the different lies that whites back then told themselves about helping the blacks with population control and the fantasy that they were somehow helping a them.
