Unpopular opinion, but an opinion that isn't biased from the Doom fan base but Resident Evil a game from the 90s , same era worth comparing since doom isn't a fps it chooses to be a survival horror with scarce ammo copying the Resident Evil style of survival horror. This game is supposed to be a first person shooter , an iconic one, but has barely any ammo and forces the player to use the chainsaw, a mechanic that can't be used creatively but is a forced mechanic and glory kos. There is some cool looking weapons and graphics but are rendered meaningless since you can't use them for anything you must spare your ammo and use it for certain enemies, the maps have no exploration , and the map markers and map are unbelievably bad, there is no option to modify it, it looks cool but isn't practical. Even Resident Evil games today are closer to a first person shooter and a survival horror than doom, Resident Evil Village is a great example with a good story , many weapons, and more ammo, with melee weapons to cater to the players playing style not forcing them to use melee , or letting them pick and choose battles, in doom you cannot pick and choose battles and must fight, while juggling ammo as if its a survival horror game. This game , Doom Eternal, tries to be all these things at once with a Fallout open world tease but is restrictive with poor maps, Doom Eternal lacks identity and character. The music is extremely repetitive, irriating heavy dubstep that gets old after 1 Demon Slayer key dungeon and is annoying after like a john wick poor mans rip off. The old Doom games have an upbeat vibe to slay the evil demons in a retro , macho cool setting , this feels like a try hard attempt like a rip off of the Resident Evil live action movies in 2020. Of course Doom fans will defend this game and not accept any opinions other than their own , its why the franchise doesn't grow because the community turns people off with the elitist mentality, a game can adapt and not leave its roots, this game doesn't offer anything interesting , doom and gloom, try hard vigilante vibes. If anything Deserved a new title it should be Duke Nukem, which had a dark dystopian atmosphere but a ultra masculine protagonist with comical and hilarious voice lines and hidden jokes especially in the first few titles, Doom feels like a sweaty game for a niche or small group of people and anyone else isn't welcome, I would reccomend Resident Evil the best selling horror franchise of all time since there is variety in their games , and wait till other remakes come out. Don't bother with this game, there is ridiculous puzzles and an obnoxious amount of platforming. As I have said this game lacks any identity and feels more like a puzzle platforming game, and definitely not a fps, it is way too fast paced too and doesn't give the player a chance to enjoy anything because they are too busy trying to figure out what the game does yet doesn't explain.
