I notice a lot of the negative reviews are from people that are anti LBGT. Yes the book is slightly agenda based but it’s not shoved down your throat.

I would compare it in the same regards as to kill a mockingbird and go set a watchman. The original book blows the highly anticipated sequel out of the water but that does make the sequels bad.
I gave it 4 stars because it’s a slow burn. The story really does not begin until your 1/4 into the book but then it takes off
