I'm really enjoying Rings of Power. I'm impressed that showrunners have been able to adapt so much of the origin mythos from the Silmarillion into a cohesive, linear storyline. This show is basically building up to the iconic moment that Celebrimbor forges the rings of power, all the while his "assistant" secretly forges the One Ring behind Celebrimbor's back. I am very interested in seeing the many stories that play out between when the elves left Valinor and the moment the One Ring is forged. I can tell that each of the iconic characters' paths will eventually cross and am eager to find out how.
Because the Silmarillion is not a linear story with a beginning, middle, and end, RoP does a wonderful job at weaving characters' narratives into the book's canon notes, putting together a cohesive story. We view the origin of Tolkien's mythos through the lenses of Galadriel, Halbrand, Isildur, Elrond, Nori, Arondir, and more. Some characters are original and their experiences add to that narrative without changing the lore. It's beautifully done.
Beyond that, the visuals are stunning. Between the costumes, the sets, props, and even the cgi -- this tv series is gorgeous.
I look forward to the rest of the episodes in the coming weeks!
