A bitter disappointment for fans of the original. It was a tall order too live up too but the devs got lazy with this one. The story has almost become a walking simulator where all the points of interest are flagged up by the PDA or Al-an. Just wonder around aimlessly and they'll point them out too you. The main areas are only worth visiting the once and once you have completed the minimal task there is no reason you should return. Even with improvements to base building in this version they have deliberately removed the fun stuff from the original with many players enjoyed, like the Sea Moth and Cyclops. These could still be modded in on earlier versions due to them re-using the same game engine. Despite the many complaints on the facebook pages over the last year, they have deliberately snubbed the community and forced the "Sea Truck" onto players, rather than giving them the option to have the Sea Moth. Even with all the criticism of the "sea truck" they have now over-powered it to such an extent that it makes the game even simpler. They started with a good concept but sold out with a much simpler format and story. All the male characters are portrayed as weak or ineffective, whilst all the female characters are portrayed as Alpha's. All nationalities/cultures are portrayed in one way or another in what can only be described as a weak attempt at being politically correct, trying to bring something too everyone whilst ultimately failing too deliver a cohesive set of characters. This game doesn't have the replay-ability of the first and I would only advise you to purchase this when it is in the bargain bin and heavily dis-counted. It is certainly not worth the full price. If you haven't played the original "Subnautica", spend your money on that one as it is a far superior game.
