Interesting that people didn't seem to recognize that his nightmares were a reenacting of some of the ways that Black individuals had been killed by the police. My take was that it wasn't all police but the idea that some police officers have determined that Black Lives really don't matter. One death of an innocent person by the hands of law-enforcement is one death too many. Multiple lives lost is unacceptable. Thought it was a clever adaptation of the "Groundhog Day" idea. The idea that you can loose your life trying to do something as mundane as going home to walk and feed your dog, is the point. If nothing significantly changes (hearts and minds), we are all caught in the loop.

The absolute best series on television! Excellent acting, writing that keeps you guessing with surprises at every turn. Storytelling like I have never seen on television, like reading a novel. The series structure is magical in ways that I cannot even articulate, and I shouldn't so that you will watch it for yourselves. Weaving of truth and fiction in ways that is so very thrilling and imaginative that I have watched the entire series multiple times and still not tired of it. For a unique exploration of race, power, gender, romance, the contemporary family, herd mentality, fascism, politics, the role of entertainment in reshaping history..this is it! Also sent me searching to experience the original source material. Beautifully creative television at its best!

I really wanted to like this show, I love the concept, the highjacking of Lovecraft into something the original author would have abhorred (that is actually irony at its best). Not really into this kind of horror but I found it so beautifully shot and presented in the beginning, it was intriguing, but the writing is just not tight enough. Watchmen, was so well written, not a moment of wasted action, storytelling or character moments, just perfect. In a story in which you are asking us to suspend belief to this degree, we have to be inside of the characters to experience the world as it is developing. Just did not happen. I found myself wondering how we got from a road trip to a haunted house with no sense of the impact of the crazy the group had just gone through (GOT final season). I wanted it to be darkly humorous, dead serious, mind bending, or a mix but I got little of any of that on purpose. The acting is too campy for it not to be funnier or not serious enough for us to be truly frightened. Season 2, please tighten up the writing, give us more character development, wrangle in the acting and lets get some fun horror going here.

I almost feel silly that I hung in as long as I did (the entire series). I have been following the story outside of the series and wanted to understand why people would follow such an obvious narcissists. I do understand the appeal of these movements, to a point, but no one seemed to acknowledge to most obvious motivation - money. The fact that the people who got out, were also the ones who profited from the ruse. There was more in it for them, besides "personal growth." The documentarians did nothing to shed light on that, nor give us a reason to really feel bad for them as victims. Except for his "first' ex-girlfriend, whose mortal sin was simply leaving Rainier and he is still fighting her for that. She was the only victim I could feel something for and her story just got muddled in the whole mess. What is the point of a second season for this ...and no second season for Watchmen?

The cinematography is beautiful, the music is diverse, eclectic and soulful. Spikes creativity and commitment to "us" is inspired and evident. The challenge - inconsistent story telling, incessant preaching (under the guise of teaching), Nola's not so great art and Im 58 and the dialogue sounds dated to me. Spike, I want to see a S3.Partner your vision with some young, up and coming writers and producers and make some Black Magic.
