I give the movie 4 stars because I loved the Mavis character, played by the incomparable Dame Angela Lansbury. Her portrayal of a lonely widow in love with a married man combined with a thoughtful, insightful, moving script was brilliant. Her movements, subtle facial expressions, palpable sense of both resignation and desire were perfect. I found Mavis' open and sincere admittance of her love for Rueben to his wife riveting. The dialogue was unexpectedly moving. I don't condone married people having affairs yet in this story I rooted for Mavis and would have been happy if her love for Reuben was reciprocated. Go figure. The rest of the movie was okay and the ending was predictable.
