Book review
Book - " Pride and Prejudice "
Author - " Jane Austen "
Genre - " Fiction, Satire, Social Drama "
After finishing this read, I can truly comprehend the novel's immense and enduring popularity. Written in 1813, this novel and the characters portrayed, the social conditions are as relevant and apt as they were back in time.
The character sketch of of the protagonists showcases the subtlety and refinement of Austen's writing. This is the story of Benet family - Mr.Benet, Mrs. Benet and their 5 daughters.
Overpowered with the social anxiety of getting her daughters married, Mrs. Benet conjures every plan to get her daughters married. From attending balls to social etiquettes.Though her husband was indifferent and lost in his own world impervious to his wife's social conduct, he was easy going.
Their daughters from descending order of their age - Jane , Elizabeth, Mary, lydia and Kitty. Each had their own personality and the author was successful in portraying a picture of their personalities and outlook towards life.
The title comes into fore with the entrance of young men - Mr. Bingley, Mr.Darcy, Mr. Wickham, and Mr. Charles.
Though each man's follies and their backstories, Jane Austen is effective in conveying the satire of the social milieu, of class distinctions and of her characters pride and prejudice.
The descprition of the manors, the large estates, the walk in the lawns and their elaborate dinners is described vividly. One cannot help but fall in love with the England landscape and culture with all its inhibitions. This book made me blush and palpitated with the characters reveal underneath their hard exterior. My favourite in this book is no doubt Mr.Darcy on whom I had a good impression irrespective of how the author tried to clamaflouge his true nature.
A beautiful classic which was replesent of the society of the time and it's people. I can dare say little has changed with the pride and prejudice of the people they hold in their mind and hearts till date. I guess one should truly not judge anyone and moreover because of few unfortunate incidents as one can't truly conceive what occurs in the mind of the other.
Don't think twice to pick this beauty even if you are apprehensive to pick classics. It's an easy read.
