Contrary to what a lot of other people may think, I absolutely LOVED this movie. The casting was amazing (I mean come on, Alexandra Daddario AND Tyler Hoechlin?! Yes please) and Emma was a very relatable character.
Although some of the acting was questionable and could be seen as cheap or low quality, I do believe the actors had good chemistry and personally wasn’t bothered by it. There were also a few jokes based off of stereotypes and exaggerations which for a more modern movie was a bit surprising. The two main characters also fall under the “hot perfect dude falls for awkward quirky girl” cliché, but realistically, most romcoms fall under some sort of cliché, so I wasn’t going to be mad at that.
From the other reviews I’ve read, I’ve noticed a pattern when it comes to the book readers. Many said that a lot of Emma’s family was missing, and that the interpretation of some characters was completely wrong.
These opinions are common with pretty much any movie based off of a book, and so I don’t think it should be put against the movie, or the director, but as someone who has experienced this with other movies, I fully understand the feeling.
Overall, I found the movie to be funny and quirky, perfect for a relaxed movie night. The flashbacks really helped understand the jokes and add humor to the movie. I would totally recommend to anyone who’s looking to laugh a little, and enjoys cutesy romcoms.
