As a fan of the original game, I love this remake. The game and the game play are absolutely beautiful. As the game evolves, it's difficult at first to swallow some of the changes if you're really into the nostalgia of the game. Take a breath and enjoy some of the changes, this is after all a remake and taking a few liberties with the story should be expected. The expansion of the story is wonderful, and very much does justice to the original story.
The background environment looks like an animated canvas, is beautifully laid out, and should be enjoyed; pause for a minute and look around and above, if you thought Midgar looked like an amazing city in 1997, looking at it 23 years later, it almost looks real. As you keep playing, you certainly expect there to be more. What about the Midgar Zolom? What about the weapons waking up? It's all coming.
The reality is that the game story here is enormous. Imagine being able to hear your favorite story again and hear all of the details that were missed before, or being able to retell it in a way that gives you the reader, or in this case the gamer, more outcome options. While the game play is linear, the choices you make have small outcomes throughout the game.
Feel free to disagree, but hopefully if you're reading this it will help you look at the game through a different lens. Enjoy.
