I wish I could give this -5 stars. I loved the books with the intelligence, smugness, and redemption arc of Artemis. They took an amazing character and made him a typical teenage boy and expected us to accept he was intelligent. I hated the movie and I really hope that Disney does not butcher the storylines of any more books . This is commercialism to the core. They think that this movie will be received well by the public because it was a bestseller and has a large number of fans and will earn big bucks. Artemis Fowl Jr is a criminal mastermind. He always wears a suit, is picked up in a limo, does not do any physical activity. His father was a crime lord and was captured by the Russian mafia for crying out loud.They took all the books and made a hodgepodge of the different storylines. Mulch is pathetic. There is no way on earth he will reveal the existence of fairies and magic. Holly Short is more like a child than an elf who is waay older than Artemis. Foaly was not given much screen space. All the humour of the books is almost gone. All in all my reaction to this movie is - D'arvit!!! Hopeless CGI, action and storyline. Do not watch this if you value your sanity. And I hope the guy who wrote the script ends up in Tartarus or in the Fields of Punishment for eternity.
