Just so way over the top and not in a good way. We found ourselves laughing not screaming at the ridiculous, cheap efforts to shock and surprise. It's supposed to be an empowering movie for women but a huge chunk of the plot is devoted to Berry's inability to handle her job and having a breakdown for about 45 minutes of the hour and half runtime. When she finally is forced back on the phone, she's still a wreck speaking through tears most of the time and acting more like a freaked out mother rather than a 9/11 operator, constantly saying 'good girl' so many times that it became laughable. Finally, someone with sense tells her to go home, she's not well, needs to take care of herself. But instead of going home we're supposed to find believable that this emotionally fragile woman is going to go hunt down the killer alone and at night with no weapon. As if she suddenly turned into Catwoman in a lame "9/11 lady leaves the office to track down serial killers" motif. Finally, the misrepresentation of 9/11 operators borderlines on dangerous. If you think that the next time you call 9/11 you're going to get some kind of Jason Bourne/CIA expert that will give you tricks and moves to hide from your klller, you'll be sorely disappointed. 9/11 operator's only job is to get help to you as quickly as possible. They are not required to be perfect crime stoppers and are not blamed for unfortunate outcomes like making the mistake of calling back and as a result the killer hears the phone and suddenly knows where the victim is and kills her. A 9/11 operator is not all seeing, all powerful and do not carry the burden nor the legal responsiblity of saving your life. They are simply emergency service dispatchers. I'm not saying that miraculous life saving moments don't happen in a 9/11 call center - they do all the time. I'm just saying that when they don't they aren't shamed by their co-workers or forced into an emotional breakdown over guilt of not doing the job like the scenario portrayed in the movie. The entire film is totally absured and absent of reality.
