I loved this book as a child and re-read it many times. I sooo wanted to be Jo but recognised I was more like Beth. I was really looking forward to this film but was very disappointed. I did like Laura Dean’s Marmee and the scenery was great. But modern eyebrows, very white teeth and heavy makeup were a distraction I didn’t enjoy. Beth was very healthy looking for a child in decline. As for Laurie, words fail me. I didn’t remember him as being weak and wet. But my companion, who hadn’t read the book, enjoyed it very much and I know I may be in the minority.
