I excitedly watched the first episode of series one and eagerly told everyone "It's brilliant, watch it!". That was quickly replaced after watching the whole series by yawning, thinking this isn't star trek, it's a soap opera about a character called Michael Burnham. Series II was no different. more yawning, is there a scene that DOESNT have Michael Burnham in it? No. Third series, watched the first batch, more Michael Burnham. This is not the voyages of the star ship 'Discovery' boldly going with rich diverse story-lines involving the entire diverse crew, instead, it is the tedious meanderings of the star ship 'Diversity' (which is an impossible mission). I get that the idea is not having so many white men in starring roles, I truly do, I'm totally in favour, but just to switch them out with women, aliens (played by mostly women), and members of the LGBT community is counterproductive to the diversity angle. I'm a true Star Trek fan and truly believe in the ideals it shines a light on. But this present incarnation of Star Trek is focusing on diversity as a single issue as a long arc is a mistake, lost is the inter-twinning of ALL issues of the day from what all previous Star Trek series had. What Disney did to Star Wars films by destroying them with mediocre scripts and great CGI and losing the heart of the essence of what Star Wars was, CBS is doing the same to Star Trek. Shame - in fact... I'm telling my mum on you!
