I really loved this book and it was really great. Lockhart showed how deceiving a person’s own mind could be to them. I will admit that I cried a little.
One really great thing about this book is that the author has not put consideration only into the main character, Cadence Sinclair, but she made sure to think about every other character, like the Liars and her mother. This makes it extra special when you reread it, and it’s almost like a completely new book.
With that said, there was one quality of Lockhart’s writing that rubbed me the wrong way. Note: this includes spoilers. In the very first part, the book is rushed with Cadence’s and Gat’s relationship. There aren’t many details we know about the two except that Cadence loves Gat. I believe romance isn’t just the love standing there, but the love showing itself in many small moments of kindness. Summer fifteen went by in the first few chapters, and then Gat had died. This means that most of Cadence’s and Gat’s relationship development had to happen in summer seventeen. That’s fine, beside the fact that Gat is a ghost now. Cadence is sick. She takes pills everyday to rid her of her pain. She stays in her room. She sometimes wants to end it all by suicide. What if the liars are just in her imagination? What if Gat in summer seventeen isn’t real?
Again, overall a really astonishing book. I DEFINITELY recommend it.
