This game helped me so much growing up. It's one of those games that I think everyone should play.
This is one of the most realistic feeling games in terms of characters. Everyone has a life and you aren't going to be able to help everyone. It's a powerful story in not only the main quest, but the side quests as well which is where the game shines the most personally. These characters feel real. They have their own goals even if they're shallow.
This game has a three day system before it resets back to day 1 and it works so well for it. Each character has their own lives in these three days and you have to self manage what you do in those three days. Sure, you can just do the main quest but it's what you do with the side quests that makes the game. These people have lives and you can either choose to help them or don't.
This game talks about very heavy topics in incredibly mature ways and it doesn't spell everything out for you. Grief, Anger, Acceptance, Denial, Bargaining, and Depression. It's very hard to talk about these topics but Majora's Mask does it in a way where everyone can understand. I understand it when I was just 10 years old.
There are only two pieces of media that make me think about my place in the universe and Majora's Mask is one of those. It helped me understand that people go through stuff that makes them who they are today. This game has a soul that I'd honestly say no other game has. It never talks down to you. It never points out the obvious. This game is the video game equivalent of one of DreamWorks most recent movies, Puss in Boots: The Last Wish. They both handle extremely heavy topics in mature ways that everyone can understand. They take everything seriously and can hold a serious moment. The Last Wish is the other piece of media that changed my life. You don't live forever. People you know will pass away.
Whenever there is a meeting, a parting is sure to follow. However, that parting may need not last forever. Whether a parting be forever or merely for a short time. That is up to you.
