I wish this movie was a Netflix special. I put "US" in the same category as "Birdbox;" overhyped.
I support Jordan Peele and his work, but I feel this movie was just ok. I would give it a 6.5/10. The story was ok although the entire cast acted accordingly delivering in a masterful way on their individual parts within this production. I also enjoy the music and cinematography.
I think this movie goes too deep down the rabbit hole looking to intertwine with any loosely connecting metaphor. To tackle the thought "we, as humans, are our own worst enemy" is hard to take on and maintain a solid story when you're thinking global portions.
****Spoiler****
So there's a tethered connected to a real person however all of the tethered are living underground. But then you realize, they are traveling around the world in tunnels that naturally don't connect to build the same relationships and families their above ground selves have.
Plus in the beginning, all of the tethered are mimicking the movements of their above ground selves. So they just decide to stop? I guess we're supposed to believe the little girl teaches them all free will?
Additionally, when the little girl is switched out and left behind, she just accepts her fate? She goes into eating cold rabbits with the others with no problem? Nothing kept her there, why not try to escape? She had to teach everyone free will, no one would have kept her there because everyone still had a tethered mindset.
I feel the movie would have been better if they just focused on the main family and the neighbors. It's easier to explain a couple clones opposed to an entire world. Then the story would have been more believable.
