I saw this movie in the Mumbai Film Festival. The movie shows parts of life of Jon-Luc Goddard. A revolutionary french director who is relatively unknown in the west, but has influenced major directors in hollywood. His revolutionary ideas included dis-owning his own best movies in support of the idea that the essence of movies lies in variety and in opportunities to newest of directors to ceaselessly experiment.
The movie is political. It covers the student revolution in France of the 1960s.
Some of the best scenes in the movie are self-referential scenes, such as, when the director says to his young actress girlfriend that Actors are in the control of directors and are dumb. If a director asks an actor to say actors are dumb, he'll say it.
If you got the joke, then the movie is for you.
