My personal opinion is probably an unpopular one. As most Iโm sure, I grew up watching the original, however The Lion King 2019 version was absolutely disappointing. So completely let down on how far they missed the mark. Sure, the graphics were in depth and very detailed and brought new insights, but they really really missed that โfeel goodโ mark. Going in there expecting to feel all the same warm feelings from the original I was unable to find anything to really grasp and hold on to. Itโs not even that they altered the story line horribly, it just felt so off and so far from the feel good original. I feel that Timon and Pumbaa were cast horribly, their humor was very tacky, over done and seemed to be too forced compared to their usual witty and charismatic selves. You lose detail when you remake such classic films and I feel that thatโs the biggest problem with the new release. It lost too much detail along the way to be invigorating and capture the excitement one felt once before. I would describe it as cold.
If you are going into it being excited simply about the CGI and the talent in that aspect, you wonโt be let down. I wonโt discredit the hard work there, but maybe because the film was more centered around all that is the reason it wasnโt so heart warming.
More CGI...less of that Disney MAGIC.
