GEO/AEO industry report: What do in-house marketers and business owners call "AI visibility optimization," which tactics do they prioritize, and what are they concerned about? ChatGPT traffic explosions... Looking at ChatGPT referral traffic data is as much fun as being an SEO strategist these days 😅 You can see how different models immediately change the traffic patterns without businesses necessarily doing anything to impact that. Talk about GEO playbooks 🤌 Google Analytics is especially fun because it used to capture chatgpt / referral, chatgpt / (not set), chatgpt / organic, chatgpt / (none), and now it is mostly chatgpt / ai-assistant... What's interesting to me is that it looks like chatgpt / referral and chatgpt / (not set) were recorded as separate clicks (look at the insane total!), and now they are both merged into chatgpt / ai-assistant... Had we been reporting larger numbers to clients than there actually were before the AI Assistant channel was introduced? I am not sure because @Ahrefs also reports much higher numbers in May than in July.... As for August, I am also seeing an increase in clicks (I assume because ChatGPT stopped citing

🤌 Buying journeys in ChatGPT are getting very skewed toward huge entities and official websites.... Comparing iPhone 16 vs iPhone 17 If I do that manually (which I did btw a few months ago): - Searching Google - Watching videos I found when searching - Reading Reddit (yeah, because it ranked in Google) - Reading a couple of expert comparisons -> Making a decision Using ChatGPT 5.6 Sol: - Watching it search TWO websites (Apple and Tom's Guide) - Reading the answer No real unbiased customer reviews and experiences; only one official site and one publication. Not sure I'd be making my decisions based on that but I imagine lots of people would. For my SEO crew: This is like the 50th time ChatGPT has changed the way it searches, and definitely it will change 500 times in the future. Just breathe and optimize for real visibility, not for how things currently are..
