I'm Arab and gay and this upsets a lot of people. I share my stories because this is still the reality so many queer people live in. My heart is clean. My intentions are clear. And I won’t stop naming the things everyone else avoids.

A gay dating story about insecurity, fear of love, and what happens when someone likes you but still feels unsafe. A guy rejected me because he liked me. He said he didn’t date guys more fit than him. At first it sounded funny, but it reminded me of a pattern I’ve seen in gay dating and relationships: some people want love, but they protect themselves from it before it even begins. A lot of us are not afraid of love. We are afraid of what love did to us last time. So we start dating from fear. We test people. We push them away. We hurt first so we don’t feel powerless later. But I already spent years living inside other people’s fear. Some stories only look innocent at the beginning... I do regret what I did...

A lot of us grew up being told we weren’t good enough. Too different. Too visible. Too much. We grew up judged, ashamed, and disconnected from ourselves. So I really don’t understand why we pass that same pain on inside our own community.

Two straight guys falling in love? I was 19, still in Beirut. I had no choice, even if none of it made sense. I think that’s what people don’t understand about survival: sometimes it doesn’t look brave. It just looks like refusing to give up.

To my 19-year-old self, you waited a long time for me to tell this story. I’m sorry it took me this long. You were not doing anything wrong. You were just true. And in that place, at that time, that was enough to make you a target.

I fought so hard just to have a normal life. Just to love who I want without it costing me my safety, my future, or my peace. Yet every time I think: “this is the limit… it can’t get worse than this” Life proves me wrong. At this point, positivity isn’t hope. It’s discipline. Because the moment I stop doing my best… is the moment I give up. And I didn’t fight this hard just to give up on having a normal life. Gay. Neurodivergent. Misfit.
