Having played it let me assure you, this game is absolutely worth your time. It's beautiful, well written, enthralling and so deliciously noir it might as well be vanta black with a splash of scifi. There are few games that can even come close to the quality this game has when it's at its best.
The biggest criticism I can level at the game, which I think is also the source of the mixed reviews, is the fact that the game feels jarringly unfinished. You can practically feel the seems where content was cut (Similar to cyberpunk 2077 weirdly enough). The final chapters feel like they're setting up a grand new act of the story only to grind to a halt before the fireworks start. There are entire areas of the game discussed at length like you might visit them but they never materialize and when the game just ends there's a very strong sense of bittersweet anticlimax that I think a lot of people take with them to the reviews.
The ending is kinda lame but I mean that's just tradition for PC adventure games at this point right? Don't let the reviews fool you; this game is a beautiful, black, gritty gem and I can't wait to see what the developers make next. The pixel animation is flowing and gorgeous, ingeniously lit with modern rendering techniques with lovingly made scenes and environments. The story is well written and the characters are deep. If you love narrative games and noir then this game is a must have.
