Honestly if you watch the last 35min of the movie you've got the whole thing and not really missed much apart from ALOT of whinging.

So from the last 35mins you get... He's pushed it too far, ends up in an unbelievable situation to watch the game, wins big but still loses everything.
And that is the entire plot.
