This was an absolute gem of a movie. Beautifully drawn, with a quirky thoughtful plot and unifying symbolism. The movie is seemingly drastically misunderstood by quite a few western viewers possibly due to the difference in culture and languages. It is a beautiful romance tale, about a girl who is so infuriatingly attractive. The plot and dialogue, and the development of characters is so natural and unforced, it makes the ending of the film settle in a very comfortable corner of your heart. 5 stars.

Beautiful and bewitching movie with absolutely gorgeous art. Plenty of symbolism, thinking points and thematic exposition as well. And a truly shocking and powerful representation of the horrors of war. I have read a few comments here uncomfortable with the portrayal of the war. I do not think that the writers are in any question about the horrific crimes committed by the Japanese during WW2. I simply believe they want to show an average Hiroshima girls’ perspective of the time. Thought provoked and highly recommended to anime and movie lovers alike.
