First off, this is just another conceptual TV show and honestly what everyone that watches Big Bro. for relationship/friendship would want. This show has been on in the UK for years (I have watched every season of Britain OG and Aus) I always wished they brought it to the US, but we didnt deserve such a show becuase:
1. Most of the US is ignorant and highly sensitive (ex. Our president). So a racy show like this will of course appeal to millennials, where other countries have already primed at fluidity/acceptance for people lounging around in underwear all day.
2. The language is much more vulgar overseas. They probably had to sit with the US cast and warn them that this would be a family network show; because they were very soft with language and I know they wanted to cuss at some time in the villa; opposite of the UK where F and S bombs were dropped every 15 mins. In France a naked model can be on a billboard ad for a fragrance line.
3. The competing network tried to do Paradise Hotel because they knew Love Island was coming. And let's face it, their first season was HORRIBLE. Bad production, bad cast, and waste of prize money.
Love Island is addictive. Almost real-time, and the unrealistic aspect of people searching for love almost naked for imagination/entertainment and winning money because we choose who we like so much as the best couple. Thats good TV in my opinion. The drama was non-stop and seemed genuine; not like a producer feeding lies to stir up drama. I would go on there myself JUST for the experience. But um no. Just fun to watch after an uninteresting day at work to get me through these summer nights. Great show. Can't wait till next year.
P.S. Caro was my fave.
