This is a rather long review, so bare with me haha. (Since first writing this I have bought the game and have played allot more so the *'s are things I think has been improved since the game first came out)
Defenders are still very poor, no marking and out played in every area. They're also completely useless at heading, especially as they've now made corners overpowered as opposed to FIFA 20. They still also obsess with playing every single attacker onside, I constantly find them running a good 30 yards to keep them onside. * (heading has been improved, but that's really only it with defence)
Fullbacks now play very central while defending, with wingers coming back, sometimes, to help defend. They also push very far up the pitch, leaving pretty much no one left in defence. * (wingers do come back more if you change tactics but be prepped to lose all their stamina)
Midfielders still don't track back to support the defence, I find most attacks they just stand and watch the players go past them and score. Then again any AI player you aren't controlling still doesn't intercept the ball, let alone do anything at all, even if the player is within a metre radius of them.
Wingers are now all about pace, I think they've kinda changed the problem where fullbacks ended up being faster than the winger, despite the winger having 90 pace or so. It's also a shame you can't cut inside and finesse like the old days.
Keepers now get beaten wayyy to easily at their near post, those are the major majority of goals I concede. Although keepers make rarely any saves anymore, assuming that EA went for a higher conversion rate for strikers. * (Keepers were improved, but they seem to have reverted that as they now feel 10x worse than before)
On the topic of Strikers, they now don't do anything and are as strong as a twig, literally. Their hold up play is rendered useless as the AI just bodyslam you. Strikers can shoot however, which is pretty decent...
Ref's are very soft, they give such poor fouls away and rarely give you any. * (this has been such a problem, they improved this then changed it back. They are still soooo soft, if anything worse than before, but their yellow card distribution is almost nothing)
Passing is still soooooo inconsistent, you could tap any of the pass buttons and the ball will end up going 70 yards, and another it not making 10 yards. I have found that AI players are incredible at passing, unlike the controlled team.
In terms of Career, I still find that teams still lose all their stamina in the first 10 mins if you use even a single tactic, the exact the same problem that occured in FIFA 20. The new training mode is a little annoying, having todo training every other in-game day can get a bit repetitive. But, it's a fresh feature to career that was long overdue. We'll ignore the FM20 approach towards career and move on.
Ultimate team, well, I have nothing to say on. I think the ratings of the players are shocking and streamers being able to build stupidly overpowered teams with their early access renders the entire gamemode pointless. Especially for those who actually grind the game out and don't use the ol' tactic of pay-to-win.
Personally, don't buy. It's only getting 1 star because of the lack of improvement and the price. I went 50/50 with someone and got it cheap, that's the only reason I have it.
However, after playing for a good 100 hours or so already, it's improved a fair amount since it came out. But allot of the same problems I've seen over the last few years still exist, hopefully EA work on the game more come the end of the year.
