I'm sorry to say that I was wanting to like this show. In the end though it was thoroughly disappointing. It's difficult not to compare it to "The Masked Singer" and there's the problem. By comparison, "The Masked Dancer" falls way short. First of all, do we really need Dr. Ken Jeong on THREE shows? "The Masked Singer", "I Can See Your Voice", and now "The Masked Dancer." Enough is enough already. On "The Masked Singer" the vast majority of of "contestants" can actually sing! Many of them are exceptional. The judges are smart, down to earth and very engaging. They may journey occasionally into the "land of hyperbole", but for the most part they are easy to watch - AND even easier to like. The host, Nick Cannon, does a credible job keeping the show moving and adds a bit of sass and humor as well. "The Masked Dancer" has none of the same qualities. I know the show is still new, but none of the dancers I have seen so far can actually dance. At least not at a level that would make you jump off the couch and start applauding. The judges fall all over themselves spewing out over the top praise after each performance. It's as if they are the parents of the contestants who had just performed. You know the kind, "Honey that was amazing!" "You did such a great job!" "I'm so proud of you!" - even though the child only managed to do half of the steps. The host, Craig Robinson, comes off as if this was a court-ordered gig that he has to serve for some previous offense. He is dull, lethargic, and does nothing to help the show along. Perhaps he realizes what a dud the show is and is just hanging on until it gets cancelled. All in all, Fox has has misstepped by creating "The Masked Dancer." If you are having problems sleeping due to all of the stress in our world nowadays, just click on "The Masked Dancer." You will find yourself fast asleep in no time! A word of advice to Dr. Ken - do one thing really well instead of three things that barely reach average.
