I watched this movie with my 25 y/o, bi-racial godson. I was 10 years old in 1962, white and grew up in Tennessee. The themes of this film were all too familiar to me. I wanted him to get a glimpse of what life had been like for people of color when I was growing up. He was understandably wide eyed at the struggles his ancestors had experienced, and the story of friendship and mutual friendship was heartwarming to see. He loved the movie, and so did I.
