One of the best books for learning R and basic applied statistics. The author has a knack for making things easy and I think they can be hilarious. This book reads informally, but it covers all the topics you might cover in an undergrad-level intro to stats course and would even be useful as a refresher before starting grad-level stats where you really just go a bit deeper into the topics you covered before. I have recommended this to all incoming grad students and so far most have been R converts and now recommend the book to others as well. Also, it is free. Give the author a shout out, they deserve it.
