SPOILER-FREE REVIEW
It's so hard to decide what I dislike most about this movie. Is it that it spends most of it's time drawing on the nostalgia fans feel for the first film, as opposed to developing an original plot in line with the premise of the first film we all fell in love with? Is it the utter failure of the cinematography to capture the lifelike feel of the first film, while incorporating surreal elements? Seriously, this movie is dripping with transparent CGI, so gross and obvious - shouldn't advances in CGI technology allow for an even more lifelike feel, instead of the opposite effect? Is it that the culture police bent over backwards to incorporate "progressive" social themes into an already half-baked storyline, at the expense of the compelling elements of the original plot? It doesn't help the progressive cause to weave in progressive themes if the final product falls flat. If you're a die hard fan of the dark, punk vibe of the very well articulated plot of the first film and you're hoping that finally they produce a worthy sequel, prepare to be disappointed. There is only one excellent movie in this franchise, and that is the very first one.
