The opening moments to "Messiah" alone make this a historic achievement for heavy music, but the entire recording absolutely destroys with its use of simple song structures, crushing riffs and brutal vocals. Their advanced sound using simple conventions shows their innovation and forward thinking. It is also intriguing to hear a band inventing a genre not quite realizing it, since "black metal" and "death metal" had not yet been coined.
