I liked it. I thought all of the acting was strong, thought Margaret Qualley looked absolutely gorgeous and thought she was also good in this part, unlike another person who commented here.
I am a huge fan of Rodgers and Hart and think their songs are overall, some of the most enduring of the Great American Songbook. They are exceptionally crafted masterpieces, the majority of them. It Never Entered My Mind is such a poignant song although not mentioned in the film. The lyrics are brilliant but try listening to Miles Davis play it, as an instrumental, and see if you can keep a dry eye, even without the lyrics.
We can thank the jazz musicians for recording these songs for decades. They are still recording Rodgers and Hart songs, and doing more than their part in keeping the greatness and timelessness of these songs alive. Oscar Hammerstein was no slouch, but Rodgers and Hart made magic together.
I saw this movie as a total fan of the music.
Not sure why it needed to be made as a film though. It might be more effective as a stage play.
All the acting was strong I thought. This might be a good choice for Netflix. Not sure you need to run out to the theater for it. Or, better yet, see it off-Broadway if it ever gets produced as a play.
