[SPOILERS]
Iโm giving this 5 stars to flush out all of the negative reviews with no context. I would actually give this story closer to 4 stars just because the first game was so perfect and was a lot to live up to. However, this story was perfect in showcasing raw human emotion. While I didnโt enjoy having to play as Abbyโs character very much, it was nice to have that perspective. As far as the ending goes, I think it was a phenomenal closing of Ellie and Joelโs beautifully put together relationship throughout the years. While, I was frustrated with the fact that Ellie let Abby go, I did understand the fact that that was the way it needed to be told to get any point across. Most gamers would agree that Abby deserved little to nothing, but Ellie remembers Joel in that moment before she decides to let her go and sees that vengeance will not bring him back. Also, she probably recognizes the fact that Abby and Lev are starting to create somewhat of their own Ellie and Joel tale. With the loss of her fingers, comes the loss of memories of Joel, as she is barely able to play the guitar anymore. It is absolutely gut-wrenching to watch, but a beautiful story to be told. With the ending of the last game, a game about love, being a somewhat evil decision, and now the ending of this game, a game about hate, with a not so evil decision, it really shows off real human thoughts rather than some mindless characters for entertainment. In the first game, Ellie says she fears being alone, and at the end of this game we see her deeply alone in her abandoned house. While revenge is something we all want to see played out and concluded, revenge leaves you with a lot of damage in the end. While I do agree that Abby deserved to be killed and Ellie shouldnโt feel so bad about some of her decisions, again, this game has always and will always be about giving you something that feels uncomfortable and this game definitely showcases a raw, emotional story, just like the last game. Itโs definitely worth a play.
