Although I initially wasn't planning on watching it, I decided to give it a try with hopes that I would end up enjoying it but I'm left utterly disappointed. I understand that this is an "adaption", however it doesn't seem like it. The whitewashing was horrendous, the styling was ugly and boring, and the cast looks way too old for it to be believable that they are in high school. Not to mention, the characters were so... plain? I barely saw any personality amidst the blandness which made the characters so dull. I don't think any of the characters stood out to me personality-wise. I'm honestly sick and tired of the YA "I'm not like other girls" lead who have basically no personality or presence and Bloom fit perfectly into it. She was so uninteresting. but of course, in order for her to have substance she was given the "dark" backstory. I hated how they turned Riven into whatever he was in the show with the annoying bully/ f-boy thing going on with him and he didn't have that rivalry dynamic with Sky??? What??? Musa was my favourite character growing up and I refuse to see the actress who plays her as her. The actress doesn't even have BANGS?! Not even the side swept long bangs that Musa in the cartoon had at one point. That should be illegal. Adding on, so many characters like Tecna and Flora weren't there. Gosh, this should have been a stand-alone because I saw nothing that would make me believe that these characters were actually fairies or that the world is some very magical one. Lastly, why the heck is everyone from the "Otherworld" British? I just don't understand the need? If they were going to give the characters accents, it would have been so much more interesting to hear them have accents from different parts of the world. The show was not worth the time I spent watching it, therefore, I would give it less than one stars if I could.
