Visual and atmospheric, though a bit of a slow pace. The film length and pace would have been worth it for the pay-off, but the ending just does not deliver - more of a whimper than a bang sadly. What I did like was the fact that it felt like a live action version of a Japanese manga / anime.

Good film, though I have to say it felt to me like a WWII version of 'Platoon' to some extent - hence the 4 stars instead of 5.

I give it a middle score as it's a middle-level movie. It's not totally bad, but then it's not brilliant either. MH is the kind of movie you watch on TV on a wet afternoon to pass the time. The monsters / creatures aren't bad, though there's a nod to Pitch Black with the creatures in the 'termite mounds'.
The only scary thing in the film is the wig stuck on Ron Perlman !! (come on, the guy was Hellboy, don't treat him like that !).

'Alien' was a haunted house, where 'Aliens' is a full on roller coaster ride. It's big, it's brash, it's loud. There is nothing not to like about this film.

I know it's a summer film rubbish, but I have a lot of love for this movie. It's an action packed, disengage brain piece of entertainment. And aren't films meant to entertain? Accuracy? Who cares, just go along with the ride. This is a film I will defend as it is just loud (disposable) fun. Yes it's a 'fast food' film, but we all like a burger now and then. It never fails to raise a smile in me.

The one SF book that I am more than happy to revisit from time to time. There's just 'something' that draws me back to it. I don't read Messiah and Children as much, but they do get a re-read ever so often.
Dune is a dangerous wasteland of a planet. Dune, the book, is full of ideas and great descriptions. It is another 'Hero's Tale' - young boy grows to power, but then you throw in the prescience aspect and the scheming going in the the background, and it really gets interesting.It feels a little sub-Shakespearean in its sweep. It's maybe not for everyone, but I am a fervent fan. Give it a try - I went into the book blind 30 odd years ago knowing nothing about the story at all, a d was instantly hooked.
