This.. what is this? What happened to the TMNT show? This is not entirely bad, but it is not good either..
The animations are smooth and well-made and the overall story is quite interesting as well, but this reminds me so much of Teen Titans Go! There are too many comedic moments to make the story suspenseful or serious, and most of those comedic moments seem unnatural and forced into the wrong areas of the plot to make the show ‘funny,’ but honestly, for the people who have good taste in plot, theme, and stories, this is just so wrong.
I, like most people who dislike the show, enjoyed the 2012 TMNT better. It had amazing stories with just the right amount of suspense and intriguing nudges to hook anyone into the show. And Splinter! What did you do to Splinter? That old rat was very much respected and adored in the 2012 show because he was both a wise teacher and caring father. He was the caretaker of the mutant turtles, the glue that holds them in place, but what happened in the Rise of the TMNT? He became lazy, unhealthy, uncaring, and very much of a jerk. It reminded me so much of one of those alcoholic fathers, which is just so wrong.
When I first saw the newest version of the TMNT, I fell into a crisis because the 2012 show was one of the most amazing shows that I had ever seen.. but I decided to watch the newer show to see if I would like it too. I did not like it. It was good for laughs, but it did a terrible job on doing the most important thing in quality shows. It did not have a good theme.
In the 2012 version of the TMNT, there were constant inspirational and motivational moments about what was right and what was wrong. Splinter’s wise words was one of those positive quirks in that story, along with just the right amount of comedy to make the show more interesting and relieving in the dark moments of the story. In Rise, however, there were poorly built ‘motivational moments,’ too much comedic moments to be natural, and never a pause for a serious and deep moment. Basically, a rip off of Teen Titans Go!
I think that Rise was mainly created for comedic purposes, and I understand that, but I would much rather have the old TMNT back. It made me feel as if there were still some inspiring things in the world, little things that make big changes. I am very dissapointed with this newer version. Forced comedy, cliche stories, changed personalities, losers for heroes.. It feels as if Nick had sacrificed quality plot for useless comedy. Maybe I am being too critical on this.. I am just so dissatisfied.
When I first saw the 2012 TMNT, I thought that it was retarded because I never heard of talking mutant turtles that protected cities as ninjas before.. but after watching a few episodes, I fell in love. It was good! Right amount of comedy, amazing story, creative inspirations, potential heroes, and the growth of those characters were satisfying to watch as well! It was.. perfect. No, not perfect, but very, very amazing.
Now, looking at Rise, it seemed entirely for the newer generation, for the little children who do not understand what a good story is and only cares about action and comedy. I used to be like that once. Now that I had taken a two-year break from watching any television and started to read books instead, I have noticed how terrible most cartoons are nowadays. All comedy and action with no deep meanings. Useless. The unnecessary amount of funny moments just makes the story unstable and chaotic as well.
Again, Rise is more suitable for younger audiences.. but I really miss the deeper meanings that were found in almost every episode of 2012 TMNT.. What is happening to this world? The taste is foul. There are already enough pointless comedic cartoons. Finding shows with people who appreciates slow builds and striking plots are now very rare. This is not all about the ‘pow and crash!’ It can be more about the ‘Stop and listen’ instead.
