Overall this album way better than I thought it would be:
Ew is great, with the luscious strings and piano, plus Joji's impassioned vocals. Such a great out of this world experience. Great start to the album.
Then we have MODUS, which started a little slow, but then quickly picked up by the time the first chorus hit. Not as great as Ew was, but quite a good track.
Next is Tick Tock, which took a couple of listens to get into. Has an interesting plucky guitar beat. Overall decent, and went better than I thought.
Following this, we have Daylight, which is Joji leaning very much into pop, and some EDM, which I did not expect would pan out quite well, as it features Diplo, who's not doing really great. Luckily their style both work really well.
Next is Upgrade, which is a little short, but it gets to the point for the most part. It starts with a cool piano passage and then transitions into a ukelele. The beginning is a bit boring, but the end is a cute little Lalala interlude-like ending. This really reminds me of Worldstar Money but better and a little more structured, despite it being short.
Gimme Love is a little slow at the start, but it's a nice throwback to his lo-fi roots. The second half is a nice angelic plucky guitar ballad. Not much to say, so yeah this is good.
Run is great. It just is. Great guitar usage and Joji really shows his vocal skills here, especially when he hits his upper register. Probably one of his greatest songs, and also the guitar solo at the end is quite stunning.
Sanctuary is nice. Not mind-blowing, but it's a nice spacy vibe song about love. Nothing else to say really.
High Hopes is a headscratcher. The chorus is fine, and Omar Apollo's verse is ok, but there was one part where he tried to sing a little higher but does not pan out well. Probably contender for my least favorite.
NITROUS is a jumpy vibe, which some nice drums and some cute vocals. The song is pretty simple, but it can be seen as "Less is more". Pretty much did a good job on here, so nice song overall.
Pretty Boy is an interesting song, but not exactly sure how I feel about this. It features a really simple beat, which a really lo-fi aesthetic, which is a bit nice. When it transitions to Lil Yachty's verse, it's a mess of sounds that seems quite funny when listening. It makes me think of his past alter-ego, Filthy Frank. Lil Yachty's verse is not mind-blowing but sounded better than I thought. It isn't terrible, and it is an interesting song. I bet most people will hate this cause of the transitions, but I recommend listening to this more, as you will get used to it.
Normal People is good. It's a slow vibey ballad with some cool lyrics. It's cool. rei brown's verse is fine. It's a nice song to chill too.
Afterthought is a beautiful duet with Joji and Benee. She does a great job matching his style. Some really impassioned vocals from both singers. A really big highlight(for me at least)
Mr. Hollywood is alright. Seems like a simple vibe, with some more lo-fi feelings. Some nice vocals here and there. It's a cute song.
777 is an interesting change of pace, where he experiments with some EDM. Not one of my favorites, but it's cool. Ran out of words, so pretty much, it's a great album. Highly recommend it. 8.6/10
