After seeing the trailers and teasers for this film, I had NO idea what to expect. I actually thought it wasn't going to be good but at least better than the 2016 Reboot of the classic 1984 film, but boy I was wrong. This is honestly, in my opinion, the best movie of 2021. Better than *Spider-Man No Way Home* in everyway. At the time of this review, I have watched this film 4 times and it never gets old, I have always managed to pick up little details that I didn't notice when I watched it in theatres and the more I do, the more I love the film.
The story is fairly basic, the first half of the movie is really fun and just feels like the great start of a new ghostbusters sequel series. The second half is essentially a rehash of the original and slightly lost my interest when I first saw the film but overtime I just grew to love it. The slight sparks of orange lightning from Gozer is honestly the icing on the cake for me because its power just feels more emphasised. The addition of the original cast, unfortunately excluding Harold Ramis due to his death in 2014, was amazing to experience. To see Venkman, Stanz and Winston back in their uniform and brandishing their proton packs felt unreal and I prefer their screentime over the two other Spider-Men in *No Way Home*. The effects are also amazing, the soundtrack was brilliant as it brought in a nostalgic tone as it stuck to the original while also feeling new and fresh. The songs that were included in the soundtrack were also great additions to the movie which really completed it.
In my eyes, *Ghostbusters: Afterlife* is the best film of 2021 and probably the best film I have seen in a while. As said by good ol' Gary Grooberson, I dunno how we're gonna top this.
