Our family expectations were high for this movie - Pixar is unrivaled in creative storytelling and computer animation. Soul, unfortunately, disappointed. The story was unimaginative, bordering on cliche'. The characters, when not on earth, were weirdly simple, overly pastel, and too similar to the aesthetic of Inside Out. The Terri's were different and intriguing, but with a blank slate for an 'other' world, Soul's was soulless. That said, the world inside the barbershop was a fantastic experience, as was the Jazz music club.
I hope Pixar can find its way back to the genius of storytelling found in Toy Story, Monsters Inc, The Incredibles, and Wall-E.
