I understand that the show is meant to be an allegory, similar to Atlanta, where the spy concept works more as a metaphor than a literal story. The problem is that it was marketed as an action-packed spy series with escapist appeal, but what viewers actually get is a relationship drama focused on John and Jane’s struggles (with every fight they have taking up almost half of the show).
There was no real reason to make them spies in the first place, especially since they are shown to be terrible at the job. They show their face on every mission and have brought marks to their actual home many times. It feels unrealistic that they weren't fired or killed after the complete failure that was their second mission.
Most importantly, Despite having a few laughs watching the show, I still felt like I was tricked into watching it. I came to the show expecting high-energy action and entertainment. Instead, I ended up with a relationship drama and insufferable main characters.
