Shirley Eldridge has written a story describing the shocking tale of Rose and her family in the Philippines. Poor Rose is a sex slave and, as a reader, I was taken into the world of horror by Shirley's writing. It is based on a true story and it is dreadful to think this happens in our lifetime. Thank you Shirley for an amazing story beautifully written.

This engaging book had me interested from the first page as I read about the hardships of life in the country. Telling in the first person makes the book come alive. It's fast pace was a page turner all the way through for me. Greg

Dark Secrets Review from the Elizabeth Jolley Bookclub May 2022 Our bookclub chose Dark Secrets for the reading in May and at our meeting, this is what members had to say. Firstly, it was a real page turner from the outset when Helen Iles describes the bodies found under a verandah of an old house. As the number of bodies increased, then so too did the sense of suspense. This suspense was maintained until the very end. The pace of the writing was excellent which is consistent with the exciting narrative. Some members loved the descriptive writing and the chase and the attempted murder, near the end, while other members were enthralled by the evocative language describing the lake. The imagery was awesome. We spent a lot of time discussing the gruesome way Buddy was killed in a car crash. We had a great discussion at bookclub! Thank you, Helen Iles, for an excellent read!
