Dark Secrets Review
from the Elizabeth Jolley Bookclub May 2022
Our bookclub chose Dark Secrets for the reading in May and at our meeting, this is what members had to say. Firstly, it was a real page turner from the outset when Helen Iles describes the bodies found under a verandah of an old house. As the number of bodies increased, then so too did the sense of suspense. This suspense was maintained until the very end. The pace of the writing was excellent which is consistent with the exciting narrative. Some members loved the descriptive writing and the chase and the attempted murder, near the end, while other members were enthralled by the evocative language describing the lake. The imagery was awesome. We spent a lot of time discussing the gruesome way Buddy was killed in a car crash. We had a great discussion at bookclub! Thank you, Helen Iles, for an excellent read!
