Frank Colón was born in Washington D.C. and grew up in Puerto Rico. He had classical piano lessons from the age of 11 and also played guitar, electric bass and drums as a teenager. Moving back to Washington D.C. to study at The American University, he subsequently moved to New York, where he mastered the spiritual Afro-Latin Batá drumming ritual and became known for his creative Brazilian rhythms.
In his career, Colón has worked with many top artists including Michel Camilo, Chucho Valdés, Wayne Shorter, Gato Barbieri, Michel Petrucciani, Joe Zawinul, Flora Purim, Ray Anderson, Milton Nascimento, Manhattan Transfer, Harry Belafonte, Airto Moreira, Paquito D’Rivera, Charles Earland, Jimmy Smith, and Azimuth, among others. He also led two previous CDs: “Live At Vartanjazz" and “Latin Wonder”.
