Wow, The Siege (1998) and Havana Syndrome had a baby! Chock full of painful attempts at figurative language, held together with endless comma splices, and weighed down with the protagonist's endless bigotry and self-hatred, it's certainly not a pleasant read. But it's almost breathtaking how lame the final "twist" winds up being, even if the only real surprise is how much fake history the author finds necessary to make their point.
