It’s a bit like watching someone play “Friday the 13th the game.” It also exists in this uncanny valley between art film and slasher, and it totally fails to successfully pick a lane. Too slow paced and sadistic to be fun, not artful enough to be art.

Solidly directed, written and acted, with some nice touches and a Dark ending, I worry about movies like this- it's a little too polished and dabbles too earnestly with certain tropes to be considered "cool," yet far too clever and understated for the James Wan set, leaving it in a critical and commercial limbo that few directors' careers can survive. I hope this finds its audience eventually.
